Nehemiah 6:9
“For they all would have made us afraid, saying, “Their hands will be weakened from the work, that it not be done.” But now, strengthen my hands.”
What does Nehemiah 6:9 mean?
Nehemiah is praying this while leading the reconstruction of Jerusalem's walls, and his enemies keep trying to intimidate him and the workers by spreading the word that the project is hopeless. He recognizes their tactics clearly: they want fear to drain their energy and commitment so the work stops. Rather than getting pulled into their discouragement, he turns straight to God and asks for strength. There's something powerful in how directly he names what's happening and then refuses to accept it as his reality. His prayer isn't complicated or desperate, just honest: "I see what they're doing, and I need your strength to keep going." That's a model many of us can relate to when people around us suggest we can't do what we're called to do.
