Nehemiah 6:7
“You have also appointed prophets to proclaim of you at Jerusalem, saying, ‘There is a king in Judah!’ Now it will be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.””
What does Nehemiah 6:7 mean?
Nehemiah's opponents were spreading a rumor that he was plotting to crown himself king, which would be seen as rebellion against the Persian ruler who had authorized the rebuilding project. This false accusation was a pressure tactic meant to frighten him into abandoning his work or meeting with them to negotiate away his authority. By inviting Nehemiah to "take counsel together," they were really asking him to come alone where they could intimidate or harm him. Nehemiah refused because he recognized the trap and trusted that his actual mission from God was more important than defending himself against lies.
