Nehemiah 4:10

What does Nehemiah 4:10 mean?
The people rebuilding Jerusalem's wall after exile were growing exhausted, and the work felt overwhelming. They were physically tired, discouraged by the sheer amount of debris scattered around, and beginning to doubt whether they could actually finish the job. This moment captures something painfully human: when we're worn down and the task ahead still looks enormous, it's easy to slip into despair and convince ourselves we can't go on. What's striking is that Nehemiah records this complaint without judgment. The people weren't being faithless or lazy—they were naming a real struggle. Sometimes the first step forward is simply being honest about how hard things actually are, rather than pretending we're stronger than we feel.
