What does Nehemiah 3:1 mean?
After the people of Judah returned from exile in Babylon, Jerusalem's walls lay in ruins, and rebuilding them felt impossible. When Nehemiah arrived as governor with a vision to restore the city, the high priest Eliashib stepped up first, leading his fellow priests to repair the sheep gate, the northern entrance through which sacrificial animals entered the temple.
