What does Nehemiah 12:32 mean?

In this moment, the people of Jerusalem are celebrating the completion of their rebuilt city walls, and they've organized a procession to dedicate them to God. Hoshaiah leads one group of officials and leaders along the wall, while another group (mentioned in the previous verse) goes in the opposite direction, so they meet at the temple. The "half of the princes" simply means that the leadership was divided to cover both sides of the wall during this joyful ceremonial walk. It's a picture of a community coming together after tremendous hardship to mark something sacred, with their leaders visibly participating in the celebration.
