What does Nehemiah 12:25 mean?

These men held a practical but important job in the rebuilt Jerusalem: they guarded the gates and watched over the supplies stored there. After the exile, when the Jewish people were restoring their temple and city, someone had to manage who came in and out and protect the community's resources. It's a good reminder that faithful service isn't always glamorous or memorable, yet these named gatekeepers were important enough that their work was recorded and honored in Scripture. Their quiet responsibility helped keep the community safe and functioning well.
