Nehemiah 11:9
βJoel the son of Zichri was their overseer; and Judah the son of Hassenuah was second over the city.β
What does Nehemiah 11:9 mean?
During the rebuilding of Jerusalem after exile, leaders had to be appointed to oversee the city and its people. Joel and Judah held positions of responsibility, with Joel in charge and Judah serving as his second-in-command. This simple statement reminds us that God's work has always involved ordinary people stepping into roles of service and leadership, making decisions that affected their whole community. Even in moments of restoration, faithful administration mattered.
