What does Nehemiah 11:21 mean?
The temple servants were people who did the practical, daily work that kept the temple running, like maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of materials for worship. After Jerusalem's walls were rebuilt, these workers needed to settle somewhere, and many lived on the Ophel, a hill just south of the temple where it made sense for them to be close to their duties. Ziha and Gishpa were the supervisors responsible for organizing this crew and making sure the work got done well. This simple verse reminds us that every part of God's house, even the unglamorous behind-the-scenes jobs, mattered and deserved good leadership.
