What does Nehemiah 10:35 mean?

The people of Jerusalem are making a solemn commitment to bring their harvest's first and best produce to God's temple each year. This wasn't about giving leftovers, but about honoring God with what came first, signaling that their trust in Him came before their own security. In the ancient economy, this was a concrete way of saying "you matter more than my survival," and it also supported the priests and Levites who served the temple. For us today, whether or not we bring literal fruit, the principle invites us to consider what "first fruits" we're actually offering God, and whether our deepest trust is really in Him or in what we can hold onto.
