What does Nehemiah 10:30 mean?
The people of Judah here are making a serious commitment to stay separate from surrounding nations through marriage. After returning from exile, they're trying to preserve their identity and faith during a vulnerable time when intermarriage could pull them away from worshipping God alone. This wasn't about thinking other people were inferior, but about the real spiritual danger they faced: marrying someone with different religious beliefs and practices would naturally draw families toward those other gods and customs. They'd seen this happen before. By choosing to marry within their community, they were protecting something they believed was worth protecting: their covenant relationship with God and the practices that came with it.
