What does Nehemiah 10:1 mean?

After the people of Jerusalem heard God's law read aloud and recommitted themselves to following it, their leaders put their names to a formal agreement, like signing a contract today. Nehemiah, who governed the city, and Zedekiah were among the first to sign, showing they were taking this covenant seriously themselves. This wasn't just about rules being imposed from above; the leaders were saying, "We're in this too." Their willingness to be bound by these commitments set the tone for everyone else to do the same.
