Nahum 1:6
“Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken apart by him.”
What does Nahum 1:6 mean?
God's anger at injustice and evil is described here as an overwhelming, unstoppable force, like fire consuming everything in its path. The image of rocks shattering shows that nothing can withstand or resist what God brings to pass. While this sounds intense, it's meant as comfort to those suffering under oppression, because Nahum was written to assure people being crushed by a cruel empire that God does see their pain and will ultimately bring justice. When we're worn down by injustice or cruelty in our own lives, this verse reminds us that God's power is real and his anger against wrongdoing is absolute, even when human systems seem unmovable.
