Micah 6:11
“Shall I be pure with dishonest scales, and with a bag of deceitful weights?”
What does Micah 6:11 mean?
God is asking this question through the prophet Micah to confront people who think they can cheat others in business and still be right with him. The "dishonest scales" and "deceitful weights" refer to merchants who deliberately rigged their measurements to shortchange customers, taking more payment than they actually gave in return. The prophet is essentially saying: how could anyone imagine that God would overlook such deliberate deception and still consider them faithful or acceptable to him? This speaks to a timeless tension between how we treat people in our everyday dealings and how we relate to God. We cannot compartmentalize our lives, claiming to love God on Sunday while knowingly cheating or misleading others the rest of the week. What Micah is pressing us to see is that integrity matters to God, especially in the small choices where no one might be watching except him.
