What does Matthew 7:1 mean?
Jesus invites us to step back from the habit of harshly condemning others, not because judgment itself is always wrong, but because harsh judgment tends to circle back on us. When we're quick to condemn, we often become defensive and critical of ourselves in the same way, or we invite others to judge us equally harshly. What Jesus seems to be pointing toward is a posture of humility and grace, recognizing that we all have blind spots and struggles we don't fully see in ourselves. This opens the door to showing others the same mercy and understanding we'd hope to receive when we fall short.
