What does Matthew 6:9 mean?
When Jesus teaches us to begin prayer by addressing God as "Our Father," he's inviting us into an intimate relationship, not a distant, formal one. The word "our" matters especially if you're feeling alone, because it reminds us we're part of a family of believers praying alongside us. Asking that God's name be "kept holy" means we're honoring who he truly is, acknowledging his character and authority before we ask for anything else. It's a way of saying that God's reputation, his purpose, and his glory matter more than our immediate wants, which actually shifts our whole perspective when we pray.
