Matthew 28:17
βWhen they saw him, they bowed down to him, but some doubted.β
What does Matthew 28:17 mean?
After the resurrection, when Jesus appeared to his disciples on a mountain, their response was mixed. Some fell down in worship, overcome by what they were witnessing, while others struggled with doubt even in that moment. This honest detail matters: Matthew doesn't smooth over the disciples' uncertainty or pretend everyone instantly believed. Even those who had walked with Jesus, who had seen him alive again, wrestled with questions. If doubt crept in even then, it speaks to how profoundly impossible the resurrection seemed, and how human it is to hesitate when confronted with something that challenges everything we thought we knew.
