What does Matthew 27:63 mean?

The religious leaders are reminding Pilate of Jesus's prediction about rising on the third day. They're asking for guards at the tomb because they actually believed Jesus might do what he said, even though they called him a deceiver. What's striking here is that these opponents of Jesus took his words more literally than many of his own followers did at that moment. Their concern reveals something important: Jesus had been clear about his resurrection, yet even those closest to him struggled to understand or believe it would really happen. This verse shows us how Jesus's promise was public and memorable, not something hidden or vague.
