What does Matthew 26:25 mean?
In this moment at the Last Supper, Jesus has just announced that one of his disciples will betray him. Judas asks the question everyone else is asking, but there's something hollow about his words, a denial that comes even as he's already made his arrangements to hand Jesus over to the authorities. When Jesus responds with "You said it," he's not accusing Judas publicly or forcing a confession, but rather acknowledging what he already knows: Judas himself has named the truth. This exchange captures something deeply human about guilt and secrecy. Judas sits at the table with Jesus, speaking words of innocence while harboring his plan. Jesus neither shames him in front of the others nor leaves him without knowing he's been seen.
