What does Matthew 25:3 mean?
The ten bridesmaids in this parable each brought lamps to wait for a bridegroom, but five of them brought no extra oil. When the bridegroom was delayed and their lamps began to burn low, they had nothing to sustain the light through the long night, while the others who had prepared ahead could keep their lamps burning. Jesus uses this detail to illustrate a deeper spiritual truth: being ready for his return isn't just about surface appearances or last-minute effort, but about genuine, sustained preparation. The foolish bridesmaids wanted to be part of the celebration, but they hadn't done the unglamorous work of planning ahead.
