Matthew 24:22
“Unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved. But for the sake of the chosen ones, those days will be shortened.”
What does Matthew 24:22 mean?
Jesus is speaking here about a time of intense suffering that will come before the end of all things. He's saying that if that difficult period continued uninterrupted for its full length, humanity wouldn't survive it, the suffering would be so overwhelming. But God won't let it drag on indefinitely, because he's committed to protecting those who belong to him. There's deep comfort in this for anyone facing what feels unbearable. Jesus isn't minimizing real hardship or pretending pain won't happen, but he's affirming that God sets limits on suffering. Even in the darkest seasons, God remains in control and is working toward the preservation and redemption of those he loves. The length of our struggles isn't infinite, and we're never abandoned to despair without end.
