What does Matthew 23:39 mean?
Jesus is telling Jerusalem that he's withdrawing from them, and they won't encounter him again until they're ready to welcome him as the one God sent. This reflects a tragic moment where the religious leaders have rejected him despite all he's done and taught. The phrase "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord" is actually from Psalm 118, words of genuine welcome and recognition that the psalmist had written centuries before. Jesus is essentially saying: you'll only find your way back to me when your hearts shift from rejection to true welcome, when you see me not as a threat but as the one your own scriptures pointed toward.
