What does Matthew 22:28 mean?
The Sadducees are asking Jesus a trick question about a widow who had married seven brothers in succession (each dying without children, as was the custom of the time). They're trying to catch him in a logical contradiction about how resurrection could work. Their question assumes that marriage relationships will continue exactly as they were on earth, which reveals a fundamental misunderstanding about what resurrection life actually is. Jesus will use their own confusion to teach them something deeper about the nature of eternity and God's power.
