What does Matthew 22:26 mean?
This verse is part of Jesus's response to a tricky question about marriage and the resurrection. The Sadducees (a group who didn't believe in life after death) posed a hypothetical: if a woman was widowed and remarried multiple times, whose wife would she be in heaven? Jesus's answer included this line about how the second, third, and all the way to the seventh brother would also marry her under the old law they were citing. The point Jesus makes isn't really about the seven brothers themselves, but about how their question misunderstands what heaven is like. He's essentially saying their scenario doesn't matter because resurrection life works completely differently from earthly life.
