What does Matthew 21:32 mean?
Jesus is pointing out a hard truth to the religious leaders of his day: they rejected John the Baptist's message even when they saw it transforming the lives of society's most overlooked people. Tax collectors and prostitutes, considered the least righteous by the standards of the time, opened their hearts to John's call for repentance and change. Yet the leaders who prided themselves on their righteousness couldn't bring themselves to do the same, even after witnessing this genuine transformation in others. Jesus highlights how pride and certainty about our own spiritual status can actually blind us to where God is genuinely at work, while humility and openness allow us to recognize truth wherever we encounter it.
