What does Matthew 21:13 mean?
Jesus is quoting the prophet Isaiah when he calls the temple a "house of prayer." That phrase captures what God always intended: a sacred space where people could meet him honestly and be transformed. Instead, the money changers and merchants had turned it into a marketplace where people were being cheated and exploited, especially the poor who couldn't afford inflated prices for temple offerings.
