What does Matthew 21:1 mean?
Jesus was approaching Jerusalem for what would be the final week of his earthly life, and as he reached the outskirts of the city, he gave his disciples a specific task. He sent two of them ahead to Bethsphage, a small village on the Mount of Olives just outside Jerusalem, to retrieve a donkey for him to ride. This moment launches the events of what Christians call Palm Sunday, when Jesus would enter the city in a way that deliberately fulfilled Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah.
