What does Matthew 20:27 mean?

Jesus flips the world's power structure upside down here. He's telling his followers that greatness doesn't come from climbing over others or hoarding authority, but from putting yourself in service to people around you. The person who wants to lead should be the one most willing to do the humble, unglamorous work that actually helps people. This challenges something deep in us. We naturally want recognition and status, but Jesus says real influence and respect come through sacrifice and availability to others. It's a hard teaching because it means the path up is actually the path down, and true freedom comes through putting others' needs ahead of your own advancement.
