What does Matthew 19:14 mean?
Jesus is pushing back against his disciples, who were trying to shoo children away from him as if they were an interruption or distraction. Rather than seeing kids as obstacles to his "real" work, he insists on welcoming them and invites everyone to notice what they embody: a kind of open, dependent trust that characterizes people who truly belong in God's kingdom. It's less about children being innocent or pure and more about their willingness to receive without pretense or resistance. When Jesus says the kingdom belongs to "ones like these," he's saying that this quality of receptiveness—not pride, not calculation, not self-sufficiency—is what matters most in our relationship with God.
