What does Matthew 18:12 mean?
Jesus is asking us to imagine ourselves as a shepherd who cares more about finding one lost sheep than staying comfortable with the ninety-nine safe ones. He's describing what genuine love actually looks like in action: it prioritizes the one who's wandered off, the one in danger, the one who needs rescuing. The question invites us to recognize that real care sometimes means leaving security behind and going into uncertain territory. This isn't a parable about sheep at all, but about how God pursues us when we get lost, and how he calls us to pursue others the same way, no matter how inconvenient or risky it might be.
