“He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field,”
What does Matthew 13:24 mean?
Jesus is describing what God's kingdom is actually like by comparing it to a farmer's work. A farmer plants good seed and tends his field with care, just as God is actively planting goodness and truth in the world. The parable that follows (which continues in the next verses) will reveal that not everything growing in God's field is what was planted there, but that doesn't change what the farmer originally sowed. This image would have made immediate sense to Jesus's audience of mostly rural people who understood farming as honest, hopeful work that requires patience and trust.
