Matthew 12:16

What does Matthew 12:16 mean?
Jesus had been healing people and casting out demons, and crowds were following him everywhere. He kept asking people not to broadcast what he'd done, which might seem strange until you understand that he wasn't ready for the kind of attention that would force a confrontation with religious authorities before his message had time to take root. There was wisdom in his timing: he wanted people to understand *who he was* before they got caught up in the spectacle of *what he could do*. This reminds us that sometimes the most powerful witness happens quietly, person to person, rather than through public announcement.
