Matthew 11:25
“At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.”
What does Matthew 11:25 mean?
Jesus is celebrating something that might seem backwards to us: God reveals spiritual truth not to those who think they have all the answers, but to those humble enough to receive it like children. The "wise and understanding" here aren't stupid people, but rather those so confident in their own knowledge that they can't make room for God's perspective. They've already decided how the world works. In contrast, spiritual "infants" aren't intellectually disabled, but spiritually open and dependent, willing to learn without pretending they already know. Jesus is saying there's actually an advantage in recognizing how much you don't understand, because that openness is what allows God's kingdom to transform you. If you're going through confusion or feeling lost right now, this verse suggests that might not be a barrier to encountering God, but actually an invitation.
