What does Matthew 11:2 mean?
John the Baptist had been arrested and was sitting in prison when reports reached him about everything Jesus was doing, healing the sick, raising the dead, and preaching good news to the poor. Rather than let doubt or despair take over, John took action, sending his own followers to ask Jesus directly: "Are you the one we've been waiting for, or should we expect someone else?" It's a deeply human moment, a faithful person in dark circumstances reaching out for reassurance. John had baptized Jesus and testified that he was the Messiah, yet now, facing imprisonment and uncertainty about his own future, he needed to hear it again. There's no shame in that, and Jesus answers him with gentleness, pointing to the signs of God's kingdom that are already breaking through into the world.
