What does Matthew 11:10 mean?
Jesus is quoting the prophet Malachi here, identifying John the Baptist as the messenger who was promised centuries earlier to prepare people's hearts for God's arrival. John's role wasn't to be the main event, but to get people ready, much like a herald who would announce that a king was coming so the people could prepare themselves. By connecting John to this ancient prophecy, Jesus is showing that what seemed like scattered promises throughout Israel's history were actually all pointing toward this moment. It's a beautiful reminder that sometimes the people who help us get ready for something important, or who point us toward truth, are themselves part of God's larger plan that spans ages.
