Matthew 10:4
“Simon the Canaanite; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.”
What does Matthew 10:4 mean?
This verse simply lists the final two of Jesus' twelve apostles. Simon is called "the Canaanite" (meaning he was from Cana or belonged to a zealous Jewish movement), and then Matthew mentions Judas Iscariot, adding the painful detail that he would betray Jesus. It's striking that Matthew includes this spoiler right in the introduction of the disciples, preparing readers for the tragedy that unfolds later. Even at the moment of calling his closest companions, Jesus knew one would ultimately turn against him, yet he called him anyway.
