What does Matthew 1:7 mean?
This is part of Matthew's genealogy tracing Jesus's ancestry back through the kings of Judah. These three names represent a line of succession, though the actual history was messier and more complicated than a simple family tree suggests. What's worth noticing is that Matthew includes this lineage not to glorify these kings, but to show that Jesus came from a real human family with a real history, weaknesses and all. Some of these kings were faithful, others were deeply flawed, yet God's promise to David's line continued anyway.
