What does Matthew 1:14 mean?

These names appear in Matthew's genealogy tracing Jesus's family line, and like the other generations listed here, they represent real people whose lives connected Jesus to the line of King David. We know very little about Azor, Zadok, Achim, and Eliud as individuals, but their presence in this list reminds us that Jesus came through ordinary human history, through countless forgotten ancestors whose names matter enough to God to be recorded. The genealogy serves as Matthew's way of saying: this child has deep roots in Israel's story, and God's promises made to Abraham and David are being fulfilled in real time, through real people.
