What does Mark 9:8 mean?

The disciples have just witnessed Jesus transfigured in blazing light, speaking with Moses and Elijah. In that stunning moment, everything shifts: the heavenly visitors vanish, the supernatural glow fades, and the disciples find themselves standing on an ordinary mountainside. They're left with just Jesus, looking like himself again. This moment captures something profound about faith. The dramatic confirmations disappear, the extraordinary proof fades away, and we're back to the simple reality of following an ordinary-looking teacher. Yet the verse suggests that perhaps this is exactly what matters most. When all the special effects are gone and we're left with just Jesus, that's when we discover whether our trust is in spectacular signs or in him.
