Mark 8:36
βFor what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?β
What does Mark 8:36 mean?
Jesus is asking us to think about what actually matters. He's pointing out that if we spend all our energy chasing money, status, power, or possessions, we might win everything the world has to offer and still lose what's most important: our own soul, our relationship with God, our peace and wholeness. It's a question meant to make us pause and ask ourselves what we're really living for. What good is any amount of success if we compromise who we are or damage our deepest self in the process?
