What does Mark 8:30 mean?

After Peter declares that Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus immediately tells his disciples to keep this revelation secret. This wasn't because Jesus was shy about his identity, but because the word "Messiah" carried explosive political baggage in first-century Palestine. People were expecting a military liberator who would overthrow Roman rule, and Jesus knew that premature public announcement would trigger the wrong kind of following and derail what he actually came to do. By silencing them, he was buying time to teach his disciples what his messiahship would actually mean, starting with his coming suffering and death, a message that would have sounded absurd if announced to crowds expecting a conquering king.
