Mark 8:14
“They forgot to take bread; and they didn’t have more than one loaf in the boat with them.”
What does Mark 8:14 mean?
The disciples have just witnessed Jesus feed thousands with a few loaves and fish, yet here they're anxiously realizing they've forgotten to pack enough food for their journey. It's an oddly human moment: they've seen a miracle but still slip into worry about practical needs. Jesus uses this moment to gently teach them about spiritual nourishment and faith, asking why they're concerned about physical bread when they've witnessed His power. The irony captures something true about how we live, even when we've experienced God's faithfulness before, we can still forget and fall back into fear.
