What does Mark 7:5 mean?

The religious leaders were confronting Jesus about a practice that mattered deeply to them: ritual hand-washing before meals. This wasn't about basic hygiene, but about following Jewish traditions that had developed over centuries, becoming part of their understanding of purity and obedience to God. They saw Jesus's disciples eating without going through these ceremonial washings and took it as a sign of disrespect toward the faith itself. What's interesting is that Jesus doesn't defend his disciples by explaining the tradition away, but instead goes deeper, pointing out that what truly defiles a person comes from within, not from external practices or unwashed hands.
