What does Mark 6:8 mean?
When Jesus sent out his twelve disciples to preach and heal in nearby towns, he told them to travel light, carrying only a walking stick and the clothes on their backs. He specifically ruled out bringing bread, a money pouch, or a bag for supplies. This wasn't about hardship for hardship's sake, but about trust: by depending on the hospitality of those they encountered, the disciples would learn to rely on God rather than their own resources, and their hosts would have the dignity of being asked to help. It's a practical lesson about how radical dependence on God can actually deepen our faith, and how receiving help from others (rather than always being self-sufficient) can bind communities together in meaningful ways.
