What does Mark 6:29 mean?

John the Baptist's followers had just learned that their beloved teacher had been executed by King Herod. Even in their grief and danger, they did something profoundly human and faithful: they came together to give him a proper burial. This act of tenderness mattered because in Jewish tradition, honoring the dead with burial was a sacred duty. These disciples couldn't save John's life, but they could show him respect and love in death, which says something beautiful about how we grieve those we've lost and how we honor what they meant to us.
