What does Mark 5:35 mean?

Jairus had asked Jesus to heal his dying daughter, but the crowd kept slowing them down. By the time this message arrives, it's too late, or so it seems. The people aren't being cruel, just realistic, based on what they know. They're trying to spare both Jairus and Jesus from a pointless errand. But this moment sets up something crucial. Jesus is about to do the thing that seems impossible, the thing that requires faith even after hope has died. Sometimes the hard news arrives right before grace does, and that's when we discover whether we really trust him or only trust him when things still look salvageable. Jairus will find out in the next breath that death isn't the final word Jesus answers to.
