What does Mark 5:12 mean?

When Jesus confronted the demon-possessed man, the demons recognized they were facing someone with genuine authority over them. Rather than simply be cast out and sent away with nowhere to go, they desperately asked to enter a nearby herd of pigs instead, likely hoping this would be a form of negotiation or escape. The request reveals something important: even the spiritual forces of darkness understood Jesus's power was absolute and they had no real choice in what would happen to them. What's striking is how urgent their plea was, showing they feared the alternative—complete removal from any physical form—more than inhabiting animals.
