What does Mark 5:10 mean?

When Jesus asked the demon-possessed man his name, the reply came: "Legion," because many demons inhabited him. What follows is this urgent, almost desperate plea, as the demons beg Jesus not to send them out of the region. They're not pleading for the man's wellbeing, but for their own continued existence and influence in that place. It's a striking moment that shows demons as real spiritual forces that resist expulsion and want to stay embedded in the world around us. For those reading this, it reminds us that spiritual opposition to God's healing work is genuine and active, yet Jesus' authority over it is absolute, whether the demons like it or not.
