What does Mark 2:1 mean?

Jesus had been traveling and teaching in other towns, and now he's returned to Capernaum, a city on the Sea of Galilee where he had a base of operations and many supporters. The simple fact that word quickly spread about where he was staying shows how much people wanted to see and hear from him, even before he'd done anything miraculous that day. This sets up what comes next in the story: so many people crowded around the house to reach him that his friends had to find creative ways just to get a sick person close enough for healing. It's a quiet detail that reminds us of the hunger people felt for Jesus' presence and teaching.
