What does Mark 15:20 mean?

After the soldiers finished humiliating Jesus with their cruel "royal" game, they stripped away the purple robe they'd dressed him in and gave him back his own clothes. Then they marched him outside the city walls to execute him on a cross. This shift from mock-king back to condemned prisoner underscores how swiftly Jesus moved from ridicule to agony. The casual brutality of it, changing his clothes like a stage prop before leading him to his death, shows how routine this cruelty had become for these men, even though they were ending an innocent life.
