What does Mark 14:8 mean?
A woman had just poured expensive perfume over Jesus' head in an act of love and devotion, and some people were criticizing her for "wasting" it. Jesus defended her by saying these words, recognizing that she had given what was within her power to give, even though it might have looked foolish to others. There's something deeply tender here: Jesus understood that her lavish gift was actually an act of preparation for his coming death and burial, something the disciples still couldn't fully grasp. When you're facing hard times or feeling like your efforts don't measure up to what you wish you could do, his words offer real comfort.
